Picking The Perfect Wedding Destination Together

Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting things you will ever do in your life, but it can be a little challenging. You may be able to get help from a wedding planner, but there are some decisions that only you and your future spouse can make. For example, how much are you prepared to spend? It’s one thing to want the perfect wedding, but you need to take into account what you can realistically afford.

Another huge decision is where you are going to have your wedding. Perhaps you want a traditional one in a church, or maybe you want an outdoor wedding somewhere close to home. In fact, one very popular option is to head off to an exotic resort with your guests, and get married at your dream wedding destination.

If you are thinking of traveling for your wedding, then it’s important that you both agree where you want to go. It’s no use if you love the Caribbean, while your other half can’t stand the heat. You want your wedding to be memorable for both of you, not just something that makes you happy.

The best way to do this is to be completely honest about what each of you want. Try this simple exercise. Take a piece of paper and give one to your partner as well. Then, right down the top five things that you want your wedding to be. For example, would a carefree and informal wedding be perfect for you? In this case, how about getting married on the beach? Or, do you want something that’s exciting and crazy – like getting married in Las Vegas? Would you like somewhere that you can enjoy the local attractions on your honeymoon – and what appeals to you? Do you enjoy sports, and if so, what type? The questions are almost limitless, but try to come up with the five things that matter to you the most.

Once you have both done this, compare your lists. Look for things that are similar and focus on these when you are discussing where you want to go. For example, if you said that you wanted somewhere adventurous, and for your partner being by the ocean would be a great idea, then perhaps somewhere like Cozumel or Bali might be a great choice. Also, don’t just focus on the destination – think about what type of venue would be perfect. For example, if you both say that you want great nightlife, then choose somewhere that is young and exciting. On the other hand, if you both love food, choose a hotel with a celebrity chef.

Once you have agreed, come up with a list of half a dozen candidates and finance the details so you can make your final decision. For instance, look at the cost of staying where you want to go, as well as travel costs for you and your guests. Also, don’t forget about basic things – for example, there’s no point in traveling somewhere for your wedding when it is the rainy season there.
